Manipulation score
CleanCompleted Jul 15, 2026 · 48 reviews flagged
How this score works
The score estimates how strongly this place's review record matches known manipulation patterns, from 0 (no signs) to 100. Verdicts: Clean below 40, Suspicious from 40, Likely Manipulated from 70; Review Drive when the flags are mostly staff asking customers for named reviews. It rises with the share of reviews flagged and how suspicious each one is.
- Burst
- — an abnormal spike of five-star reviews in a single day compared to the place's usual pace.
- Low activity account
- — the reviewer has almost no other reviews, photos, or Local Guide history; throwaway accounts look like this.
- Duplicate text
- — the wording is nearly identical to another review of the same place.
Verdicts are statistical estimates based on public review patterns, not accusations. Full methodology, signal definitions and known limits →

Frances Tavern is the oldest tavern in NYC. It hosted many of the founding fathers. George Washington actually gave his farewell address to his officeds in the tavern as he used it for his headquarters.

The oldest building in Manhattan, erected in 1719. They have an in depth museum on the upper floors that highlight the 300 year history of the building. The food is also delicious. The clam chowder was great — a bit of an unorthodox decisio...

I loves me some awesome historical landmark. What do you mean that our nation's father gave his farewell speech here!! Heck yeah! The drinks are amazing. 10/10

You have to! Come have a drink of good ole U.S. history! I had the Presidential Punch, and I'm still trying to figure out my name.

Went to have a drink as this tavern was recommended. Unfortunately didn't even get to order any drinks as we were told that the bar area where we were standing was closed and staff ignored us after standing for 10 minutes at the other bar....

Lively pub and historical spot in the financial district. Lobster mac and cheese and roasted chicken were delicious. Old fashioned was good but not the best I've ever had. Service was friendly but they were definitely busy with too many tab...

Service was pretty much nonexistent. They kept coming up behind us with new dishes so they would touch plates to clear. When they did the same for dessert we HAD TO request for the table to be cleared. Let's not talk about asking for water...
Food Quality and Pricing
Some reviewers feel certain dishes are bland or overpriced for a typical pub experience.

Absolutely an amazing historical eatery. Love the multiple rooms and feels. Food we ordered was subpar. Ahi tuna bowl was terrible. Chewy tuna and mostly rice - 28$ Chicken pot pie is really not a pot pie at all. Basically it’s a cassero...
Crowds and Noise
Reviewers note that the tavern can get very crowded, loud, and tight on seating.

Great history. Not the most accessible place for people that have difficulty walking but understood given the historical nature. Food was delicious. The flatbreads are huge! Was the best fish and chips I've had in the US.
Good for
- History buffs
- Drinks and bar crawls
- Groups looking for a unique atmosphere
Avoid if
- You are sensitive to large crowds and loud noise
- You require swift, highly attentive fine-dining service
- You are expecting an exclusively quiet, intimate dinner

Was looking for a cozy vibe for me and my girlfriend, and this place just that. Our server Brad was great - professional, informative, and let us have our alone time. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for that New England feel with good service and food.
